Already from the birth of a new design idea many decisions are made in order to maximise the quality, design and function of the product – and minimise the effects on the environment. When developing a new product, the main focus areas for our Design Team are:
- A careful selection of honest raw materials
- A design and selection of materials that secures durability
- A design that minimise material waste in the production
- A packaging that minimise space and transportation
- A packaging that minimise damages
- A choice of the factory with the best specialist know-how for the production
- A choice of factory that minimise transportation
- A clear product development process with the supplier on the factory floor
The majority of Bolia products are designed and produced in Denmark and other EU countries.
More than 35% of our volume is produced in Denmark and more than 60% in other European countries. Less than 4%, mainly home accessories, is produced in developing countries such as India and China.
The Danish and European production is a stronger advantage for us to secure both a high product quality and good working conditions. The local production is also better for the environment, due to minimised transportation and thereby CO2 emissions.

| The Bolia Design Team takes environmental considerations into the design, development and packaging of all new product. |
|
We minimise the usage of low-durability materials in the production, such as chipped wood, laminated chipped wood, or board-on-frame, because of the poor durability and high waste rate. |
|
Our designers follow the product development onto the factory floor in order to secure that all Bolia CSR standards are followed. |
|
Having our suppliers and distribution points physically close to our stores means minimised transport from the factory to our customers, and thereby minimising CO2 emissions. |
