Kids of Kilimanjaro
I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with a few of my friends in September 2009, and during our adventure we were very fortunate to meet a fantastic person; Edward “Teacher” Lazzaro who was our guide to the top of the mountain. Besides being one of the very best mountain guides on Mt. Kilimanjaro he is an extremely positive and generous individual. I learned that he got his nickname “Teacher” because he took the initiative to establish a simple outdoor school in 1994 for local underprivileged children. In 1997 he also established an orphanage for children who lost their parents and family to Malaria, HIV or other tragic causes.
Today the Kilimanjaro English Nursery School has more than 300 children in the age 3-8 attending classes 6 days a week and 45 children living in the orphanage. Teacher, his wife, sister, cousin and several more volunteers are running the school and orphanage and caring for the children. I had the opportunity to visit the school and orphanage and was astounded by the positive spirit and kindness of the children and the love and dedication of all the volunteering local staff.
I was immediately inspired to do what I can to support the children in Africa through establishing the Bolia support project “The Kids of Kilimanjaro”
In the project folders you can see all the concrete actions and improvements for the children that have been implemented through our donations.
Warm regards
Lars Lyse Hansen and everyone at Bolia.
