Every design in our collection is made from durable materials, which have been carefully chosen based on quality, durability and where and how they were produced. Explore our world of beautiful, natural and durable materials below.
FSC®-certified wood and veneer
We love natural, living materials such as solid wood and veneer – oak, walnut and ash – which beautifully reflect our Scandinavian design heritage. From forest to home. Naturally, all the wood we use is FSC®-certified. This means that the wood is sourced from sustainable forestry that provides good working conditions for the forest workers and which ensures that biodiversity is maintained.
Is there anything more calming than tactile upholstery fabrics? Bouclé, New Zealand wool, linen, velvet or textiles made from recycled materials. Whichever you prefer, rest assured that the fabric is completely free from harmful chemicals – every single upholstery fabric is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified. Some fabrics are even certified with the EU Flower, making them a more environmentally friendly choice.
Like wood, leather is a natural material that changes and patinates beautifully over time. And every piece is unique.
All the leather we use is from either Europe or Australia and is traceable. This means that we can trace the hide's entire journey all the way from manufacturer right to your living room. This not only ensures that the leather is of the best quality, but also that it comes exclusively from areas where animal welfare is imposed by law. The leather we select is a by-product of food production and we only use the best quality, making it a timeless and durable choice.
Our upholstery leathers - Quattro and Austin Nubuck - are LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX®-certified, meaning they are completely free from harmful substances.
As a beautiful contrast to the soft textures and warm materials, we love using natural stone such as travertine and Italian marble, and plastered concrete.
Elegant porcelain and rustic, hand-glazed stoneware creates a special tactility at the dining table, together with elegant, mouth-blown glass and crystal glass – clear, textured, sand-blasted and toned.
We are members of the Care & Fair organisation. This is an initiative founded in 1994 to support local weavers, particularly in India and Nepal. It ensures that traditional millennium-old craftsmanship lives on but with the provision of responsible working conditions and access to schooling and medical care for the weavers and their families. And all our handwoven rugs carry the Care & Fair label – as well as being of the finest, handmade quality.
We love using natural elements in warm, natural materials, such as the jute and bamboo fibres in our rugs, and Cord's fine, handmade paper cord, which is spun in Denmark from FSC®-certified wood. All our paper and cardboard packaging is also FSC®-certified.
We strive to use recycled materials where we can. For example, we only use surplus foam for the filling in the Recover modular sofa, the moulded seat on our beautiful Seed chairs is made from plastic waste, and several of our furniture fabrics are woven in recycled plastic – such as the Revi furniture fabric in 100% recycled material, from e.g. plastic bottles.
