Sustainable quality

We don’t just care about our designs; we care about how they come to be. We are picky when it comes to materials, craftsmanship and sustainability. Materials must be fine and luxurious, crafted environmentally right and socially responsible. Our leather is traceable and contains no harmful chemicals. We use only feathers from animal production. Our wood adheres to the EU timber regulation, EUTR, and all our fabrics are dyed with natural and biodegradable colour.

To us, New Scandinavian Design is not just what we do, it’s also where we do it. The majority of our collection is designed and crafted in Denmark and Europe. More than 20% of our volume is produced in Denmark and more than 70% in other European countries.

We are big fans of natural materials such as wood, leather, marble, veneer, metal, concrete, resin and wool, and we love to create contrasts with colours, details, humour and surprising combinations to create unique and exciting designs.

Our aim is to create high quality furniture that will last for many years. We minimise the usage of low-durability materials such as chipboard, laminated chipboard, board-on-frame etc. These low cost materials are heavily used in the furniture business, but are not entirely environmentally friendly because of their low quality, durability and high waste rate.

    • Bergo fabric

Bergo can do something none of our other materials can do. It's made from recycled polyester made of plastic bottles. No new raw materials are used in the production, and the chemicals are 100% degradable and completely harmless. Bergo is also 100% free of heavy metals and is certified according to the EU Ecolabel and Oeko-Tex.

    • The fabrics

Our fabrics are all made from sustainable and honest sources, e.g. 100 % wool, recycled plastic bottles, recycled cotton, and we’re proud that most of our fabrics are OEKO-tex certified. All fabrics are 100% free of heavy metals such as nickel, lead or chromium.

    • The wool

The wool we use comes from New Zealand sheep living under the best conditions possible. Our farmers value the life of each sheep and upholds all conventions attributed to animal welfare. Our wool is the 100% natural choice that will conform to even the highest standards.

    • Traceable leather

Our leathers are handpicked and carefully selected from around the world. It is produced without any use of PCP or CFC, and both our leathers are 100% traceable, meaning you can track every step of the way, from farmer to your home, ensuring quality and transparency.

    • Beautiful on the inside and outside

No matter whether the wood is visible in the final design, or is used for the frame inside a sofa, we’re proud that our designs have nothing to hide. On top of that the wood glue used is 100% water based and environmentally friendly.

    Longevity in all designs

To ensure optimum product quality and longevity, our furniture production is placed with some of Europe’s finest manufacturers, and all designs made for professional usage is thoroughly tested in collaboration with Bureau Veritas, the world’s leading quality- and certification agency. Here the designs are put through intense strength- and abrasion tests, and all designs are furthermore tested to avoid harmful chemicals.

At Bolia.com we carefully follow and respect the high EU REACH, eliminating risky substances from our production processes and thereby minimising any possible allergic reactions.

Europe’s chemicals legislation (REACH) grants consumers the right to information about specific problematic chemicals in consumer products. These substances are contained in the Candidate List, an official EU list of substances of very high concern. The list includes chemicals with known long-term adverse effects on humans and/or the environment. This list is updated regularly.

We will avoid the use of potentially harmful chemicals in our products. We therefore require that our producers must avoid the use of substances on the Candidate List in the production process.

Around 95% of our collection is purchased within the EU and we make sure that all of our producers are aware of their obligation to inform us regarding the content of substances on the Candidate List in their respective products.

You are welcome to make an enquiry about any product in our collection. All enquiries regarding problematic chemicals in our products are handled by our central product department. We will as quickly as possible collect the requested information from our producer regarding the use of any substances on the Candidate List in the given product.
