Tests, standards & certifications

With ambitions to create and shape a more sustainable industry, we have joined forces with leading partners such as Bureau Veritas, Danish Technological Institute, Schneider Electric, FSC Denmark and MÅLBAR. Testing our designs to the highest quality standards, processing knowledge and developing measurements about the climate emissions of our entire value chain, allowing us to find tangible ways to effectively reduce our overall impact. That is also why we are proud to offer a 10-year warranty on every single design in our collection as one of the only companies in our industry.

FSC ® COC Certificate

All wood we use is FSC®-certified. This means that it comes from responsible and legal forestry, which protects biodiversity in the forests that the wood comes from. FSC® is the world’s most ambitious global certification for responsible forestry and considers all three sustainability parameters – social, economic and environmental. It is also the only certification and labelling system of its kind that is backed by recognised NGOs such as WWF and World Forests. Read more at FSC® Denmark.

All our designs containing MDF and plywood are tested to comply with TSCA title VI (Toxic Substance Control Act), which ensures that the wood does not emit formaldehyde above permitted trace amounts.

We only use water-based lacquer with a low VOC content, which emits significantly fewer pollutants than PU based lacquers, making it better for the environment and indoor climate.

    • Bolia x SPOOR

Quattro leather by SPOOR is a chrome-free and biodegradable premium Scandinavian leather. Each piece can be traced all the way from farm to finished product – sourced exclusively from Danish and Swedish cows and turned into luxuriously soft leather at Denmark’s last remaining tannery, located on the island of Funen.

All our fabrics and Soft Collection are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. This means that the textile has been tested for harmful substances and is completely safe. The testing is conducted by independent OEKO-TEX® institutes, taking into account both regulated and non-regulated substances that can be harmful to human health. In many cases, limit values go well beyond national and international requirements. The criteria are updated at least once a year and expanded on the basis of new scientific expertise and requirements.

    OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD

Our upholstery leathers are OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD certified, which means that they are, like our OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified fabrics, tested for harmful substances and are safe to human health. All our leathers come from Europe, which not only ensures that it is of the best quality, but also that it comes exclusively from areas where animal welfare is imposed by law.

The EU Ecolabel is the official European eco-label, with the aim of reducing the overall environmental impact from production and consumption. That's why consideration is given to the entire product life cycle – and the environmental problems that arise along the way – when determining the requirements that certified products must meet. For the benefit of people, the environment and the earth’s resources.

A selection of our upholstery fabrics are certified with the EU Ecolabel and therefore have a smaller environmental footprint. This applies to the wool fabrics Laine and Gaja C2C, the incredibly durable Step Melange and Bergo, which is made from 98% recycled polyester.

Down and feathers are what give you the inviting comfort and natural durability in your sofa, chair or pouf. All our down and feathers are responsibly produced, ensuring transparency and guaranteeing that they only come from animals that have been treated humanely. They also comply with Standard EN 12935, which requires that the material is processed under sanitary and hygienic conditions.

Our products are tested to meet European and North American standards. EN standards for strength, durability, stability and safety are a collection of European quality standards, developed by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), that a company can voluntarily choose to comply tol. BIFMA is the equivalent quality certification applicable to the North American market.

Together, they provide you with the security that our designs are completely safe to use – and made to last.

We are a member of amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), which bases its work on a common Code of Conduct. The amfori BSCI Code of Conduct contains 11 principles, such as the prohibition of child labour, forced labour, corruption and discrimination, and has requirements to ensure working conditions and employees’ rights to set up trade unions.

We are members of the Care & Fair organisation. This is an initiative founded in 1994 to support local weavers, particularly in India and Nepal. It ensures that traditional millennium-old craftsmanship lives on but with the provision of responsible working conditions and access to schooling and medical care for the weavers and their families. And all our handwoven rugs carry the Care & Fair label – as well as being of the finest, handmade quality.
