Our Journey to Something Better

Real change. Not the overnight kind, but the kind that grows steadily and solidly – through conscious choices, open minds, and a deep belief in new ways of thinking. We’re on a journey to something better. Better business choices. Better options for you, our company and our partners. And our ambition is to inspire others to do the same by sharing our passioncreativity, and ideas as transparently as we can.

    • A CREATIVE CULTURE

Everyone at BOLIA has an important voice. We believe the best ideas come when people feel safe, valued, and inspired. Guided by our core values – people, quality, and creativity – we strive to build a culture where imagination sparks change, respect fuels collaboration, and quality drives excellence.

At the heart of this effort lies an ambitious sustainability strategy that has driven meaningful change over the past years and continues to evolvehelping us lead the industry towards a better future. In this journal we share our journey – the progress made, the goals ahead, and the work still to be done. All data is shared with honesty, curiosity, and a deep love for what we do.

For us, great design is not only what meets the eye, but just as importantly, how it is created – and the way it makes us feel. From the very first sketches to the finished design, we’re guided by 6 simple yet powerful principles. They shape every step of our design process and help create pieces that are both beautiful and built to last. We call them the 6 R’s.

    Made to last

While our team of designers lives and works around the globe, 89% of our designs are crafted in Europe. As our furniture is made to order, we don’t keep large warehouses filled with generic models. This helps us avoid overproduction and reduce transport distances, resulting in faster deliveries and fewer kilometres driven, while giving you the freedom to customise each design to suit your way of life.

Our materials are carefully curated with respect and timeless quality, inspired by the changing seasons, the unique textures of nature, soft hues, and the calming atmosphere that surrounds us. Choosing the right materials lies at the heart of creating designs that are not only beautiful but also everlasting.

Since 2020, all new furniture designs have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they meet the highest EN standards for durability, strength, and stability. In close collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute, each design is carefully tested against strict quality criteria, so you can enjoy it for years to come. And to support that promise, every design comes with an exclusive 12-year warranty for MyBOLIA members.

    • LONGEVITY IS KEY

Longevity is at the heart of everything we do – timeless furniture crafted from durable, carefully selected materials and made to stay beautiful for years to come. With component-based design, renewable parts and changeable covers, most pieces in our collection can be refreshed, repaired and adapted over time, so what you love can evolve with your life. Because true luxury is not about replacing more. It’s about keeping what matters.

    • CHANGEABLE COVERS FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

Life changes. Your style changes. And sometimes, accidents happen. That’s why most of our sofa designs come with changeable covers – a simple idea that makes a big difference. They allow you to remove, clean or replace the cover, giving your sofa a longer life and your home a new expression, without replacing the entire design. To us, longevity isn’t just about how long a sofa lasts – it’s about how well it adapts to your everyday life, from muddy paws and movie nights to new colours and new chapters.

For us, a better future is shaped by the choices we make every single day. The materials we choose. The craftsmanship we trust. The people we collaborate with. The things we say no to – and the values we stand up for. We continuously seek better solutions and smarter processes, always striving to raise the bar for responsible design.

    Our ambitions

We’re proud to be part of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – a collaboration that ensures our climate goals are based on the latest scientific insights. As a global nonprofit, SBTi helps businesses like ours set bold yet achievable targets – and holds us accountable every step of the way.

    • MEASURING OUR FOOTPRINT

In collaboration with our friends at MÅLBAR, we measure the climate footprint of our most popular design series – including everything from raw materials, to production, packaging and shipping, the product lifetime and eventual disposal after many years of use. Our goal is to make it easy for you to explore and compare the actual CO2eq emissions of most designs, enabling you to make informed choices.

We're committed to reducing our climate impact – and to do that, we need to understand exactly where it comes from. We’ll take you through how we measure our CO2eq emissions across different stages of our business. From sourcing raw materials to the final disposal of a product, every part of the process has an impact on the environment.

We track our emissions across three categories defined by the GHG Protocol: Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3. Each scope covers a different part of our business.

Scope 1: Direct emissions from activities in our stores and headquarters, like air-conditioning, refrigerators, and fuel used in company cars.

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the energy we purchase, such as electricity or heating for our BOLIA stores and our headquarters.

Scope 3: Indirect emissions happen throughout our value chain, such as from the production of our designs, the transportation of materials and finished designs, as well as when customers use our products and when the designs reach the end of their life

Measuring our emissions gives us a clearer picture of our true climate impact – and shows us where we can make the biggest difference. It helps us track our progress, adjust our strategies, and continuously improve. The biggest part of our impact comes from producing the designs we sell, which makes sense, since that’s where the most resources are used.

Here, you can see our estimated CO₂eq emissions for the 2025 financial year, distributed throughout our business.

We calculate the CO₂eq emissions of many of our designs to provide a clearer understanding of their climate impact. This makes it easier to compare designs and helps us identify where we can reduce our overall footprint. Right now, 47% of our designs have had their CO₂eq emissions calculated across their full lifecycle – from raw materials and production to packaging, transport, use, and end-of-life.

Each wooden chair carries a story – not only of craftsmanship, but also of its climate footprint. From the forests where the wood is sourced to the workshop where it is crafted, through transport and finally into your home, every step leaves an impact. Here, you can explore and compare the estimated CO₂eq emissions of selected dining chairs upholstered in Monza Green fabric, giving you greater insight into the climate footprint of each design.

We’re proud to open our doors and share the full story behind our designs – who makes them, what materials are used, where they come from, and the specific standards and certifications for each design. Our goals are clear, and we work towards them every day. Transparency guides our decisions, shapes our partnerships, and helps us share both our ambitions and the progress we make along the way.

    LET'S EXPLAIN

    SUPPLY CHAIN FOR OUR DESIGNS:

    LEVEL 0

    SUPPLIERS - 100%
Our trusted external suppliers help produce some of our designs, mainly accessories. They act as a bridge between us and the rest of their supply chain, using their expertise to meet our quality and production standards.

    LEVEL 1

    MANUFACTURERS – 94%
At this level, skilled craftsmen and -women, artisans, and technicians build the finished designs you see – sofas, furniture, lamps, vases, and tableware. They receive the parts and materials they need from Level 2.

    LEVEL 2

    COMPONENTS - 37%
Manufacturers at this level create the parts, components and materials used by Level 1. This includes sawn wood, veneer, marble tabletops, foam, and fabric.

    LEVEL 3

    RAW MATERIALS – 9%
This is where it all begins. Here, manufacturers deliver the raw materials that Level 2 manufacturers need to produce components – such as timber, flax fibres for linen, or raw blocks of marble.
